Shaped by the traditions of the Paiwan people, the surrounding mountain environment, and a rich diversity of local lifestyles, Majia reflects a harmonious relationship between people, culture, and nature.
Millet, red quinoa, coffee, cacao, and mangoes are more than agricultural products. They embody local food traditions, ceremonial practices, ecological knowledge, and memories passed down through generations. The annual Harvest Festival, held in rhythm with the agricultural calendar, brings the community together through song, dance, blessings, and shared celebrations to express gratitude to the land and ancestral spirits.
Visitors can explore Rinari Community, the Old Kaviyangan Slate House Settlement, and the Indigenous villages along Provincial Highway 185, where traditional architecture, the Paiwan language, ancient songs, handicrafts, and community-led cultural interpretation continue to sustain cultural identity while embracing contemporary life.
At Sanhe Community, where the plains meet the mountains, traditional crafts and agriculture have developed side by side. Weaving and other artisanal practices coexist with the cultivation of millet, red quinoa, and fruit trees, reflecting a way of life rooted in the land while fostering creativity and resilience.
In Majia, "slow" is not defined merely by the pace of life or the beauty of its mountain landscape. It is expressed through the continuation of cultural traditions, the transmission of Indigenous knowledge, and the shared commitment of different communities and generations to building a sustainable future.
